Finally, the Business Law Examination has finished.

I was quite calm about the Business Law questions as most of the topics that were covered were what the lecturer told us were important to to focus more on.

Well I handled Section A pretty well as I was prepared for them during my revision. I just hope that I would do better for the LAC questions in Section B.

Overall, I think I did my best and the preparation which I had was rather sufficient to defeat the examination.

Next up, Finance of International Trade and Taxation!

18th Birthday Plans

For this year 2007, I intend to hold a birthday party for my 18th birthday on September 15, Saturday. I'm not having the party on my actual birthdate as I can anticipate that some of my classmates and coursemates may be working during weekdays and may not be able to attend. I mean, what's a party without the people in it?

I didn't host one last year in 2006 because I didn't think I was that familiar or close with my classmates and coursemates. So I thought maybe I should wait another year for me to get to know them better.

Hence, this year in 2007, I am sure I relate to some of my classmates easier and comforably now.

I've informed all my classmates in TA07 and some coursemates whom I usually interact with during lectures.

Hope that all invitations are accepted because I intend to play the game "Taboo" during my party as it requires teams of people to play and it's an intelligent game to play with people at the ages of 18 and above.

On Wednesday, Aug 8, I'm going to confirm invitations for my party and know the attendance so that other important plans can be made

End of the Interdisciplinary Studies Module

The end of the 2007 IS modules has marked a threshold in life where I have acquired new skills to use.

Firstly about Spanish class. The Spanish class is really enriching in the sense that I had a taste of the Spanish language and bits of the culture. Now, I'm able to communicate in Espanol with my uncle, such as Como estas (How are you), Bueno dias (Good day), gracias (Thank you) and Adios (Bye Bye). Someday, I hope to go to USA maybe with somebody to visit my uncle and maybe I can really experience the spanish culture there.

Secondly about my photography class. I have learnt many shooting techniques and lens settings effects of the camera to produce different impressions. My CCA, Catholic Youth Apostolate in NP will definitely benefit from my skill and competence as I produce good quality photos for them. It has also taught me to appreciate the different aspects of photography and allowed me to understand the impression that the photographer wants to make.

I think I am rather fortunate in taking these two classes as these classes are my preferred choices which I made in the module preference ranking exercise few months ago before module enrolment. Some of my classmates and coursemates failed to secure their places in their preference during enrolment.

According to my photography tutor, he said that the demand for this module is increasingly significant during the module preference ranking exericise. My cohort is rather lucky to have the module as a hands-on class. In previous semesters, only the theory principles are taught and students had to use film cameras.

Exams for Year 2 Semester 1 Coming!

The examination for year 2 semester 1 is coming. This time, I'll be seating for Business Law, Finance of International Trade, Taxation 1, Cost Accounting and Intermediate Financial Accounting.

According to my tutor for Business Law, it will be an open-book exam. However, I still doubt the calmness and time-management during the business law exam. I think it's better to memorise the harder ones and refer to the book for the easier ones.

For taxation, there's a lot of memory work to do. All the Tax reliefs and conditions must be in my human hard disk drive. From past experience of Taxation common test, time-management is very important. Not doing so can results in lots of rush work and careless mistakes can happen.

For cost accounting and intermediate financial accounting, I'm not that worried as it's just the statement format and some theory principles to remember for the exam. The statements are the parts of the exams that make it tedious. But by getting the format correct may give me some sympathy marks just in case careless mistakes do occur.

CYA & CSS 2007 Interaction Day

On Monday, June 18 2007, both catholic groups and societies in Ngee Ann Polytechnic and Singapore Polytechnic had a June Interaction Programme held in Singapore Polytechnic.

It started off with mass celebrated by Father Val from Holy Cross Church in Clementi. The congregation was comfortably accommodated in the small room which it was held in.

After mass, all of us went for a worthwhile games session in the campus. Snooker tables and foosball were fun to play. Some of us learnt many foosball tactics and strategies from the SP mates. Snooker was equally fun as we had both laughters and teases during the games to break ice.

Of course, some just could not resist to show off their foosball and snooker skills and techniques. From that we learnt a lot of new things from the games and it was fruitful.

For lunch, we headed to the fastfood outlet, namely KFC and PizzaHut. It was a good way to get to know each better as fellow catholics.

Soon after lunch, we headed back for games. This time we had a longer and serious game. Both presidents were eager to challenge each other to foosball and snooker, one-on-one! Not only did we have a lot of fun, we got the chance to explore a bit of SP campus.

I can say that this interaction programme was a well-organised one as we had a good time with each other and got to know some other SP friends.

Hope that this kind of programme will be organised again to improve the relations and strengthen the bonds of both catholic groups.

Common Test (2 - 7 June 2007)

Wah, common test was kinda mini obstacle man. go for a few consultations for IFA, and COST. funny, blaw tutor did not give past yr's blaw common test paper to prep for test. well, nevermind, got do memory work for blaw principles and court cases enough.

Taxation common test was really a challenging one. I think just passed Tax.
Intermediate Financial Accounting was not too bad but still a brain-racking one because of I wasn't so sure about the Statement of Changes in Equity answers.
Business Law could be said as OK. I didn't really spot the questions but those that I studied majority were tested.
Cost Accounting is said to be the least tough. Most of the MCQs should be ok. The long question was manageable.

Hope that this common test can pass or, better, score. It comprises of 20% of final assessment.

Very fortunate to have John and Gabriel as study buddies during the Common Test prep. Thank God for them!

New academic year has come!

Yeah, finally school has started for me. Waiting for 8 weeks can be really tough. Of course, I had my own stuff to entertain me. Electone practices, listening to grammy and songs, playing with the iPod.

This holiday has been really deserving for me after the brain-exhausting semestral examinations. Luckily, I used most of the time during the holidays to record good songs and songs which my siblings liked very much to listen to.

Well, to start off the first week of school term, I'm taking Spanish and Exploring Photography for my IS (Interdisciplinary Studies) modules. Spanish for the 1st term and the other in the 2nd. For my cores, I've enrolled for Cost Accounting, Taxation, Finance of International Trade, Intermediate Financial Accounting and Business Law.

Luckily for me, the electives which I've enrolled are both my preferred choice so I think I'll pretty much enjoy them for the 1st semester of year 2.

Hahaha. Got my exam results. Not too bad. Scored a better gpa (3.2917) compared to last sem's (3.2273).

Here's the thing.
BCA - A, BMGT - B, FFA - B+, IAC - B+, LMS - A, MAEC - C+, WCOM - B
need to improve more on my macroeconomics. read more newspapers (straits times, business times). i know.

lucky got new tutor to guide me for FFA, otherwise confirm kick the bucket ah. (touchwood). but still can't sit down and relax. need to bring it to at least A. BMGT could have been better if I'd memorised the correct stuff.

must do better next time for year 2. chiong ah.

First World Hotel

The hotel reception area was crowded with people of all ages, of many races and languages. I guess it was due to the holiday season that the business was so overwhelming. My family was lucky to be able to check in on time because there was this kind receptionist who allowed us to check in before those in queue. Thank God for him!

When we went up to the rooms, we realised that the rooms were not ready for occupation. The housekeeping staff were still cleaning up and needed more time to finish. My elder sister had also found out that the rooms given were on a smoking floor. Upong knowledge of that, we quickly went to request for rooms on non-smoking floors.

Fortunately, there were four rooms left on that floor and we gladly accepted the offer.

Singapore to Malaysia

I had packed quite a number of stuff to prepare to for the December 2006 trip to Genting Highlands, Malaysia. As it was heard to be rather air-con cooled, I thought bringing a jacket or sweater might help.

It was an early morning, as the whole family had planned to leave Singapore by 6.30am to avoid the peak period as that would cause much delay in our journey. We arrived at Tangkak for morning breakfast at 10am, while visiting our relatives at the same time to let them know our presence.

After the visit, the trip to K.L. was up ahead. The roads were long that if you were a average driver, you could drive with one eye closed! It was that straight. Upon arriving in K.L., I saw the reputable Petronas Tower. It is quite tall and very stirdy-looking.

We had to pass drive through quite a number of toll booths to get the toll tickets and pay them at the end. Some tolls measure a long distance, hence the high fees.

Upon reaching the foot of Genting Highlands, we could see the mist at the peak of the highlands from far. The roads were rather steep, but are much widened compared to the time when I was there. At first, I thought that the car with the bigger engine would be the ones that run faster. Then, I saw smaller cars driving up the same road and ran much faster in speed. I was amazed at that! Of courses, the buses had much difficulty but made it at the end.

Driving at the top of Genting Highlands was rather tough as the driver had to see through the mist to be able to drive properly and refrain from causing accidents.

When we finally arrived at the foyer of the First World Hotel, the temperature was like air-conditioning. I had to put on my sweater so as not to start shivering. Had a lot of baggages to carry.

I was amazed at how the Hotel had been decorated with christmas trees and lightings. What a beautiful sight it was!

Movies

Today I just watched Happy Feet, the Animation Film starring Robin Williams, Elijah Wood, Nicole Kidman, Hugh Jackman and Brittany Murphy. It is kinda' cute to see the lil' penguins do their feet-tapping on the ice. The film offers lots of singing and humour. I recommend kids and adolescents to go catch the movies. I rate it 4 popcorns!

After that, I'm goin' to watch Casino Royale, the 2006 James Bond film starring Daniel Craig and Eva Greens. I think it'll be a great movie to catch during the weekends just to relax and stay cool.

Common Test (9 - 15 Dec)

Common test coming up next week. The few papers I am sitting for are Macroeconomics, Business Computing Applications and Fundamentals of Financial Accounting. This semester got more projects per module and less exams per module. That is why Business Management, Written Business Communication do not have papers in the Common Test.

Just got back my results for the exam in semester 1. Most of the results are expected. Scored a C for Accounting. I think I must improve some more to catch up on the next semester's Fundamentals of Financial Accounting. Computing & Information Processing, Microeconomics, Oral Business Communication, Business Statistics fared rather well (Bs & A).

Exams coming

I had just completed my Business Statistics test yesterday. It was a difficult one at first, but after much deliberation, I had it figured out. It was a 5-mark question and I thought there needed to be a lot of working and explanation. However to solve a problem, I only needed the values and formulas to obtain the answer to the problem. Hence, it was a really tough time then because I had to think what to write to get the full mark of the question. Exams are coming and tests are finishing. End of August will be a critical period for me because exams are in progress and in mid-September, results will be out. I hope that I can score for the exam paper and move on to the next semester of year 1 in Ngee Ann Poly.

Electone Grade 5 Performance Exam

It was expected that I did not do that well because I sort of practised more of the song playing than the rest; which were improvisation and sight playing. I screwed up the impro and sight playing part by breaking down and not playing it smoothly. Even if I did, some sounds would b off-key and still won't sound nice. The sight-playing part was even more horrible, terrible. I had a lot of break downs and couldn't play it smoothly. I think I was more traumatised than the examiners were. Furthermore, I think I did not have enough preparation for the part. I just hope that I will make it and pass.

NP CCA

Wah kao eh. Sian ah. Not many CCA I like. I either choose Fencing, Badminton, Tennis, Table Tennis or Archery. I prefer racket games to others. Badminton got Saturday from 9 to 11.30am or 11.30am to 2pm. Cannot choose the session as it will be assigned to me. Tennis only got Friday or Monday from 5 to 7pm. Tennis must pay $150 per sem (6 mths). Table Tennis is on both Wed and Fri from 6 to 9pm. Fencing is see which kind of sword u take. If its sabre, got tues, thurs and sat. If foil, then tues and thurs from 6pm - 8.30pm.

NP CCA Fiesta 2006

Actually, this event for NP's feshman was optional but I decided to go because it is not everytime that all the NP's club and societies come out and recruit freshmen. The exhibition was held in three I places, the convention centre basement, the atrium and the school of health sciences. I found the badminton club and fencing club booth at the school of health sciences, the floorball club at the atrium and the tennis club at the convention centre basement. The only sport I couldn't find was the table-tennis club. It was really an exciting event for the freshmen in my opinion.

FOC Camp

Just came back from Ngee Ann's FOC Camp. Damn tired. Quite a cool game though. Not 2 corrupted n boring. Play a lot of game like Wacko, Double Wacko, Caterpillar, Butter Hill, The Matrix. All veri fun lei. I liked it veri much. Except tat some games gave me a little muscle ache. Needed foot reflexology n a good massage. Also needed lots of good night's sleep. The last night of camp was terrible. I didn't dare 2 sleep cos some people very "eat full nth 2 do". They take markers and draw on people who were sleeping. When those people wake up, they find themselves like a artist's masterpiece.
